Weird feeling right now. At the moment I can only drive in case of emergency, because I'm temporarily out of air filter. I know, I should have kept the OEM paper air filter, but that somehow got lost.

Anyway, last time I cleaned the K&N OEM replacement inlay filter was in August 2011, so some 40k miles ago. Not quite urgent, but it can't hurt either. It showed in dirt build-up, there wan't much of it. So now I'm waiting for the filter to dry. No hot air, no compressed air, just air drying. Which means my car is grounded..

It should be nice and dry in a few hours time, but I'll just leave it overnight and oil the filter tomorrow, before putting it back.

Don't put it back on straight away after oiling it. Let it rest on the paper towel again. Cleaning and oiling the K&N is a 24-36 hour affair. Get yourself an OEM filter for the down time.

Absolutely agree with Frederick. I keep a Fram around for the period of time when I clean the K & N.

The 3 layers of self-proclaimed "ultra absorbent" paper towel lived up to its claim. The 2 sheets, S-folded in 3 layers, were soaked to the point of dripping.

So it looks like I can oil the filter tonight and have an evenly oiled filter tomorrow.

As I mentioned, I had the OEM filter as a spare. But it got lost at some point.

Since I'm on the lookout for a new car anyway, getting a new paper OEM filter now is kinda useless. It just so happens that I can get someone else's old used spare, which is lucky for me. At least I can sell my car with stock filter.

$4 at WalMart. If you need to go somewhere.

I don't think Wallmart does Peugeot / Citroën filters. And Wallmart doesn't do Belgium, or The Netherlands where I live, so there's that too.

Yep. Junkyard then?

I know someone who still has a suitable spare, while he no longer has the Citroën Xsara that the filter was for. So I'll be set for the next time.

This reminds me that I have yet to even check the condition of the K&N filter in my car, and I've had it for almost two years and +16,000 miles now...
